In the wood-paneled office of Donald Short, owner and president of Short’s Marine, there is a plaque that reads, “Observe the turtle. He only advances when he sticks his neck out.” Members of the marine industry would do well to observe Donald Short. Under his reign, the family business that began operation in 1949 as a marine repair and chainsaw shop in a one-car garage has grown to become the largest boat dealership in Delaware.

Short’s has been unstoppable, with indoor and outdoor showrooms of new and pre-owned boats and PWCs, an 11-mechanic service center, custom canvas and rigging shops and an inventory of more than 250,000 parts, the largest on the DelMarVa Peninsula and the largest profit center in the operation.
